Victorian Grotto

This unusual shelter is probabiy constructed out of stone from the demolished mill. If you look carefully you can see the chisel markings and evidence of water corrosion left on some of the stones. Again, there was a fountain in front, (of which there is now only the base), making this another point at which to stop and rest and enjoy the surrounding landscape.

Pet Cemetery

The Leighs were great lovers of their dogs and cats, their particular favourites are buried here. Unfortunately Lord Leigh shot his favourite Setter by accident during a hunt and mortified by his mistake raised a monument to his beloved hound.

Walking back down to the Abbey through wooded groves it may come as a pleasant surprise to know that you have trodden the earth where Jane Austen, Queen Victoria and Prince Albert leisurely strolled. Enjoy the views.
